This webinar will be the twentieth in a series of events convened by the Committee of 100 that examine the challenges facing Chinese Americans and other Asian Americans with regard to barriers to advancement in a wide variety of professions in the U.S. The goal of this initiative is to contribute to the already significant efforts of organizations and individuals who have been tackling this issue.

This event will be a fireside chat interview of four Asian Americans in the Technology Industry who have observed and experienced the Asian American Career Ceiling problem.

Asian Americans have been very underrepresented historically when it comes to leadership positions in the U.S. Although there has been improvement over time, there is still a significant gap that has not been closed. This is also true in the Technology Industry.

All of our panelists are leaders of prominent technology companies. They will discuss how they dealt with the problem in their careers, what is driving the problem, where they see the issue heading in terms of solutions, and advice they would offer to those in the audience attempting to rise through the ranks.

The interview will be conducted by Peter Young, Committee of 100 member and Chair of the Committee of 100 Asian American Career Ceiling Initiative. The webinar will be one hour and fifteen minutes long. The audience will have the opportunity to ask questions during the last ten minutes of the webinar.

Albert Ko

CEO, Early Warning Services, LLC

Albert Ko is Chief Executive Officer of Early Warning Services, LLC, a fintech company owned by seven of the country’s leading banks. The company’s innovations empower financial institutions of all sizes to make confident decisions, enable payments and mitigate fraud.

Ko is well known for his consistent track record of leading at scale and developing innovative product experiences in financial technology, payments, and consumer and small business management. He assumed the role on May 13, 2019.

Early Warning has served to protect the financial services industry from fraud and risk for more than 25 years. Today, the company is best known as the owner and operator of the Zelle Network®, a financial services network focused on transforming financial experiences. But, it is the company’s rich portfolio of deposit and payment risk management, identity verification, and authentication solutions for banks that have been foundational to its years of success.

Prior to joining Early Warning, Ko served as Chief Transformation Officer for Intuit. Appointed to this role in 2017, Ko drove Intuit’s operating rhythm and oversaw the cross-company transformational change initiatives that allowed Intuit to re-imagine and re-invent itself in order to best serve its customers.

Over his 13+ year career at Intuit, Ko held numerous leadership positions, including General Manager of Mint and Head of Product for Intuit’s Small Business Group, where he was responsible for the global expansion of QuickBooks, Payments, and Payroll.

Before joining Intuit, Ko was a management consultant at both the Boston Consulting Group and McKinsey & Company where he advised technology and industrial clients on strategy, organizational effectiveness, and supply chain management.

Al holds a B.A. in History and International Studies from Yale University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Shin-Wen Kuo

Shin-Wen currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer for Hewlett Packard Enterprise's (HPE's) $3B High Performance Computing & Artificial Intelligence business group, leading an organization of over 600 that deploys and supports the world's fastest high-performance computing systems.

Shin-Wen is an international technology executive with 25+ years of demonstrated success building and transforming software, hardware, and services companies ranging in size and complexity from start-ups of $100M in revenue to large enterprises of $120B in revenue. She excels at translating strategy into execution to build and scale new businesses, drive revenue and profit growth, and deliver operational excellence. Previously at HPE, she was General Manager for the Core Rack and Tower Compute business, the General Manager for the Hybrid IT China business, and has led teams in Corporate Strategy and Operations. Prior to HPE, Shin-Wen founded the London office and led the Northern European for a start-up which was acquired post-IPO by Ariba (now SAP).

Shin-Wen has a passion for developing strong leaders, opportunities for diverse talent, and a sustainable culture. She has developed and delivered formal trainings as executive faculty for HP's Stanford Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program, been a guest lecturer at London Business School, and coached and mentored hundreds of team members through roundtables, presentations, and 1:1 sessions. Shin-Wen has also served on the board of the Women's Business Council Southwest.

Born in Taiwan and raised in the United States, Shin-Wen received a B.S., magna cum laude, in Chemical Engineering from Rice University and started her career at The Boston Consulting Group. Shin-Wen is a global citizen who has lived and worked in the Americas, Europe, and Asia, is a dual citizen of the United States and the United Kingdom, and is fluent in English and Mandarin.

Deb Liu

President and CEO

Ancestry

Deb Liu is the President and CEO of Ancestry. With over 19 years in the tech industry, she has been named one of Business Insider’s most powerful female engineers and one of Payments Source’s most influential women in payments. She was previously a senior executive at Facebook, where she created and led Facebook Marketplace, a platform for millions of people to buy from and sell to one another. She also led the development of Facebook’s first mobile ad product for apps and its mobile ad network, in addition to building the company’s games business and payments platform, which includes Facebook Pay. Prior to Facebook, she spent several years in product roles at PayPal and eBay, where she led integration between the two products. She serves on the board of Intuit and Ancestry and is a seed investor and advisor to several startups. She also holds several payments- and commerce-related patents.

Actively involved in promoting diversity in tech, Deb founded Women In Product, a nonprofit with over 30,000 members, with the goal of connecting and supporting women in the product management field. She is a member of the Committee of 100, a group of prominent Chinese Americans, and was named an A100 by Gold House, an honor recognizing impactful Asian Americans.

Deb received a BS in Civil Engineering from Duke University and an MBA from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. Each week, she posts her thoughts in Perspectives, her Substack newsletter. She lives in California with her husband and three children, and enjoys chronicling their family adventures in her Mommy School comic strip.

Jeanne Yuen-Hum

Vice President, Global Supply Chain Quality & Reliability and Corporate Product Regulations and Standards

Intel Corporation

Jeanne Yuen-Hum is vice president in Manufacturing and Operations and Director of Global Supply Chain Quality and Reliability (GSCQR) at Intel Corporation. In this role, she is responsible for all materials and supplier quality programs for Intel's global supply chain to ensure that 100% of all procured materials, capital equipment and services meet Intel expectations for both internal and outsourced manufacturing. She is also responsible for the Corporate Product Regulations and Standards (CPRS) organization at Intel. CPRS is responsible for ensuring product safety and compliance to all government regulations and industry standards.

She is the Co-Chair of Intel’s Network of Executive Women (iNEW) and the Executive Sponsor of both the Oregon Women at Intel Network (OR WIN) and the Oregon Intel Chinese Employee Network (OR ICEN).

Prior to this role, she was vice president in Technology and Manufacturing Group and director of Customer Quality and Regulatory for 7 years where she led the organization responsible for customer quality & reliability, product regulatory and product safety & security support across all Intel product families.

Yuen-Hum joined Intel Corporation in 1996 as a senior software engineer. She has held numerous leadership positions in software quality to advance software engineering excellence, and in product qualification for communications, wireless and automotive segments.

Before joining Intel, Yuen-Hum managed avionics software quality at Canadian Marconi and worked as a telephony software designer for Ericsson Communications.

Yuen-Hum received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in computer science from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

Peter Young is CEO and President of Young & Partners, a boutique investment banking firm focused on the life science and chemical industries. He manages the firm and is actively involved in client transactions and financings. Under his leadership, Young & Partners has established and maintained its position as a highly regarded firm serving the corporate strategy, M&A, restructuring and financing needs of clients worldwide. He was previously head of industry groups at Salomon Brothers, Schroders and Lehman Brothers, a senior private equity executive with J.H. Whitney & Co. and a senior member of Bain & Co., the corporate strategy firm.

Mr. Young received a BA in Economics from Yale, an MS in Accounting from NYU, and MBA from Harvard Business School where he graduated as a Baker Scholar. He is a CPA and a Chartered Global Management Accountant. He serves on a number of boards of directors, both corporate and non-profit and is a board member of Société de Chimie Industrielle, a leading life science and chemical industry non-profit organization and on the Editorial Advisory Board of Pharmaceutical Executive.
